Devon Day Trip Ideas From Torquay - Part 4
Teignmouth & Shaldon
As owners of self catering holiday accommodation to rent in Torquay, we are often asked for recommendations for short day trips in and around Devon.
If you don't want to venture too far, you can head out on the Babbacombe Road, past the incredible Labrador Bay (see photo), towards Teignmouth.
Teignmouth is a fishing port with historic Georgian buildings, great local seafood and long sandy beaches. The thing we love most about Teignmouth is that you can see some incredible wildlife including seals, whales and dolphins. It is also a great place to sample some truly delicious seafood that has been landed locally!
For a morning adventure to be remember, we recommend a Devon Sea Safari trip. The knowledgeable folks that run this sea adventure know the best places to find large sea animals like dolphins, seals, whales and porpoises that regularly visit the local waters. You'll head out on an exciting 10 meter rib boat, which gives you the best opportunity to enjoy the stunning coastline and incredible wildlife.
After you've worked up a hunger on the Devon seas, we recommend heading to Crab Shack on the Beach in Teignmouth for lunch. Here, you can find outstanding local seafood, and of course, you can also eat a lot of crab. Crab shack on the Beach won the Taste of the West Gold Award in 2017. We highly recommend it!
After lunch head over the Shaldon Bridge and explore this lovely little seaside enclave. There's a great beach called Ness Cove Beach at Shaldon, and a small Wildlife Trust Zoo that houses lemurs, plus other small mammals and primates. Kids love it, and they do important conservation work at the zoo, so it's well worth your support.
You can spend several hours wandering around the hip and beautiful Shaldon, with plenty of places to eat and drink if you require refreshment.
From Shaldon, it is only a 20 minute drive back to our self catering holiday home, which makes this a fun and super easy day trip if you don't want to go too far.
